EUROCUP: “Gescrap Bilbao Basket has shown its credentials in the 2012-13 Eurocup by downing Buducnost Voli Pogdorica and Belgacom Spirou Basket to take control of difficult Group B. No other player was happier after this week’s victory in Charleroi than Belgian power forward Axel Hervelle. First, he had the chance to play in his home country, in front of his family and friends. Second, he returned to the Spiroudome, where he helped Real Madrid to win the then-called ULEB Cup in 2007. Hervelle lived up to the high expectations with a stellar performance in which he did a little bit of everything – 12 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks – to lead Bilbao to a 69-85 road win. Despite his excellence, Hervelle keeps his feet on the ground and knows Bilbao needs to work hard to go deep in the competition, as he told Javier Gancedo in this Eurocupbasketball.com interview. “We always want to compete at the highest level and our club has always put together very competitive rosters to achieve that goal,” Hervelle told Eurocupbasketball.com. “We want to go as deep as possible in the competition, but have to prove that on the court.”
